Hidden Gem | 7 Reasons to book Selina Nomad Camp Agafay

Selina Agafy nomad camp by Roy

For a person who had never glamped before, Selina came in as the pleasantest surprise. Tucked just 30-kms south of Marrakech. Here are seven compelling reasons why you should consider booking your stay at this remarkable destination.

Note: These are my own views and this was a self financed trip and this is not an AD.

  • Peace and Tranquility: Leave behind the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse yourself in the serenity of this place. Experience a sense of peace and tranquility of the Agafay desert as you unwind and reconnect with your inner self.
  • Views of Atlas Mountains: Evenings here were spent attending the welcome celebrations but when you sit outside on the tent porch get prepared to be captivated by the awe-inspiring views of the majestic Atlas Mountains. Marvel at the rugged peaks, breathtaking sunsets, and star-studded night skies that paint a picturesque backdrop for your stay.
  • Conservation of Environment: This place takes environmental sustainability seriously. By choosing to stay here. Feel good about being part of a destination that prioritizes the preservation of its natural surroundings and also provides employment to the locals.
  • Minimalistic Luxury: This place offers minimalistic luxury, allowing you to appreciate the beauty of simplicity while enjoying the finest amenities that enhance your overall experience. You have a choice of air-conditioned tents to tackle the heat of the dessert.
  • Connect with Yourself through Yoga and Moon Rituals: Immerse yourself in rejuvenating yoga sessions and embrace the serenity of moon rituals. These mindful practices provide opportunities to connect with yourself on a deeper level, fostering self-reflection and personal growth.
  • Best Desert Parties in the Right Season: If you’re a fan of unique and vibrant celebrations, this place hosts the best desert parties during the right season. Experience the exhilaration of dancing under the starlit sky, creating unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.
  • Exceptional Hospitality: Above all, the outstanding hospitality offered by this place sets it apart. Despite the lack of phone connectivity, the staff goes the extra mile to ensure your comfort and safety. They provide their phones to assist guests in finding lost phones or staying connected when needed.
  • Love for Bollywood: This is one theme which echos in every corner of Morocco. Since the time I worked at France telecom I was aware of the love Indian movies receive in Morocco. From the bartender to the guests who came for their stay I was pulled into impromptu conversations about actors to movie climaxes.

The rooms

Sandy hued tents line the camp with the scope of choosing between a shared or private tents. The decor of the tent is minimalistic and showcases berber decor with Berber carpet and bedspreads. The tents are also air-conditioned to provide comfort from the dry heat of the desert. Each tent has a beautiful porch which gives you a beautiful view of the camp, vastness of the Agafay dessert and lush Atlas mountains. We had some beautiful peaceful moments sipping on some wine and playing cheeky games and chatting to a french couple who were our neighbours. We had a 2 private tent which costed us £110 for a night inclusive of breakfast so £55 per person.

Activities

The evening that you arrive is marked with a welcome drink and the drinks are on the house with a choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.

The mornings can be started at sunrise with Astanga yoga but I am not a morning person.

Infinity pool at the camp is one of the best I have seen in the desert 🙂 dual toned and the water is cold and crystal clear. If you are looking for a pool with a vibe then this is where you need to be. Mind you the pool is cool and I recommend it for the peaks sunny seasons. I dont know how this works in winter.

You could go for an adrenaline rush experience with a buggy ride or a quad bike. Since I had a quad bike experience in Turkey I decided to give it a miss.

I did try the camel ride with the traditional attire and with our very own instagram friendly camel herder. I would day just be mighty careful while alighting off the camel as mine decided to go for a munch right when I was trying to get off his back. But it was fun and I would still recommend it.

If you have to relive your muscles or go lymphatic drainage then it is highly recommended as my friend did try it and she liked it. I mean who doesn’t like little pampering.

Food

The rooftop menu includes a wide range of authentic and homemade Moroccan cuisine with a contemporary twist, complemented with both a fine selection of wines and crafted signature cocktails. I remember waiting in anticipation to hear about our passports and the lost phone but still mopping up the luscious lamb Tagine. I would say the owing to scarcity of supply nearby the food is slightly on the pricey side.

The daily breakfast offers buffet, continental or American options and has to be pre-booked.

The overall vibe of the place was amazing! The location, the tents, the pools, the restaurant and the staff, everything was great! I have just re-booked and can’t wait to go back and enjoy with my family this time.
