Jamshedpur Style Chicken Bharta | Anniversaries

Anniversaries are special for any family. Some mark the birth of a chapter while others commemorate a very special memory. The recipe today is that for me.

Ever since I was 19 I have travelled for education, work and wander. Living a nomadic lifestyle means taking time to cconsider where you might call home and for how long. While some wandered are happy to bounce around with absolutely no timeline, many prefer a commit to set a period of time.

To each it own. If I turn around and see I know where home is, mummy standing by the bent iron gate flanked by the mango tree and the jackfruit tree. My dad working in the garden which grew wild bounced by picket fences and my sister snoozing somewhere close. But that life stage is over now.

Over time roots can mean multiple things i.e your country, your family, or the house in which you were born. I mean the house in which you were born in. I mean the house never remains the same, it’s going to get old and people move. So, literally your physical home is ever changing. The people who you grow up with and have grown up. You might get a small piece of you if you return to the home in which you were born.

Jamshedpur Style Chicken Bharta

Coming back to Chicken Bharta, every year for my parent’s anniversary we used to visit this restaurant called ‘Kwality’ near Bistupur, Jamshedpur. Its the best Chicken Bharta in the whole big wide world. The taste was special because each year we weaved a new thread into the original taste yarn. I recently learnt that during my recent visit to Jamshedpur that the place is still open. Though I cannot vouch for it as I didn’t visit it this time. This visit was rather special because I visited my home town after 20 years.

Though there are similarities to its Calcutta version which is not surprising because most of the chefs in Jamshedpur came from Calcutta or were of Bengali origin. The chef wanted to prove it so much to the core that our version was served with a poached egg rather than a boiled egg which was served by its Calcutta counterpart.

Definitely try the other recipes from my blog. Like https://heuristickitchens.comharissa-chicken-baugette/
