My today’s recipe is a high tea snack Western Cheddar cheese and Onion Pasty Bites. To the big question its a bold NO I am not miserly at all.As you will reflect back in my story “Me meet Fin” that when you start your career and money is less and there are lots to do.Its then you do get into the mode of saving and start to curtail desires. Its the time when you need to get your own place, your own travel means and best dressed and be presentable in the corporate world. That’s when you need to sacrifice stuff and behave miserly for couple of things based on your choice of interest.I was a foodie then and I am a foodie now.Nothings changed in all these years.
I always believed the mannequins in the window display of fashion stores are made of magnet and there’s an invisible north pole which attracts involuntarily the south pole inside shopaholic (trust me that pole is inherent in some of us). When I started my career I spent all my weekends doing tons of window shopping. Its a porn in its own way luring you to come and get me….oops! I resisted but later I succumbed to their friends request.Today Zara,Mango,Ted baker,Miss Selfridge are few of my best friends (psst….they are better than pal you’ve ever had…no bitching involved)
Back then I would have every single meal at home.I even prepared my lunch box…gosh can you beat that….like a school girl.A few gold coins to be spared at the cafeteria was a sin for me. Lord save my kidney, duodenum, esophagus and salivary glands as they got hydrated the moment they went on the high street. The decadent brownies, cheese dripping mac burgers, oil sizzling kebab and fiery wings they all have cornered me and forced my hand to my wallet. But I have gulped all the juices and hit my hand and yet not relented. But today its a whole new story when it comes to food I think I can cook everything that I desire under Mum sky.
If I reflect back then I find that self-control beautiful. A woman is queenly when she has complete mastery of her temper, her feelings, her appetites; when she can stand amid temptations and not yield to them. That makes her strong. I am happy I had to pinch myself then to lie on a small pay check to realize its fruits today but I also learnt now to enjoy the fruits of my labor.
Here in England we West Cornwall Pasty a petite shop located at the corner of the tube station cast that has the same attractive spell.I really struggled to make my way past that shop.I reflected back to those days and started practicing that same control even though I didn’t need to.I usually make these pasty bites on cold winter evenings to snack with tea or coffee.Hope you like it.
Homesick
Its been two years since I visited my hometown and I am starting to miss it.Whenever I am sad I like doing two things.I go to the nearby park and sit on the bench and watch the flight landing.I stay very close to the airport so a view of landing flights is quite common.I also like to visit the cemetery and sit quietly and watch the graves. And no I am not spooky it just gives me a nice feeling to think, about what each one of them buried would have been and whether their wishes were fulfilled or not.I am still alive. Shouldn’t we always celebrate life…..be thankful to god for whatever he has given us.On that note, lets start cooking Western Cheddar cheese and Onion Pasty Bites.
