I am a human first and then a woman, this is what I tell myself everyday. My biggest strength is my inner strength. Every since I have picked up my camera I have seen a world with a different perspective. It is my third eye and lets me see things which I miss with my natural eye. Because it forces me to concentrate on subjects, objects, food and most importantly the driving force behind them. But without enlightenment we all are blind…..About frank water charity to follow!
FRANK WATER CHARITY
On the eve of International women’s day frank water charity organised a fund-raising event at Carousal London.A single women’s ailment lead to the birth of the frank water charity. This charity provides safe drinking water to the 663 million people worldwide who still lack access to this basic human right.Katie Alcott contracted dysentery in 2005 on drinking unclean water during her stay in India. Since then she pledged to educate the deprived communities of India about safe and pure drinking water. They have now taken a holistic approach in order to provide drinking water and ensure sanitation. Being an Indian I feel proud to have come across this charity and feel my moral responsibility to support this charity.
They had the most scintillating line up of female and one male chef who came forward to share their story of success and at the same time served their unique creations with food to the guests. The evening was hosted by Lisa Markwell, editor of the Independent on Sunday and Pinky Lilani CBE DL, Founder of Women of the Future Awards. Lisa is a wonderful orator and Pinky’s effervesce to support the cause is infectious.
Some of the best chefs in the food industry came forward to support this charity working tirelessly throughout the day to present a mouth-watering spread. (Maria Elia, Olia Hercules, Romy Gill, Paula McIntyre and James Whetlor)
Romy Gill – Head chef at Romy’s Kitchen, charity fundraiser & marathon runner. It was her idea to invite the chefs to share their stories along with the feasting. She is the reason I got the opportunity to photograph this lovely event.
Olia Hercules – previously at Ottolenghi & contributor at the Guardian Cook supplement.
Maria Elia – Chef, Food Writer & author of Smashing Plates.
Paula McIntyre – chef, teacher and broadcaster. She came all the way from Ireland for this event.
James Whetlor – chef, producer & winner of 2014 OFM award for best ethical producer. He was the only male chef among the brigade of female chefs.
On 22nd March we have the world water day.Frank water has come up with a simple pledge where for 1 week we consume only water and all the money we spend on cappuccino, diet coke, tea or wine in a week will be donated to the charity at the end of the week. All this because there 663 million humans still without safe drinking water.
You suddenly feel privileged to have that glass of wine in your hand and the ability to use water at our discretion. A very important thought would be also to save water because we have an abundance while others live in the lack. One face in the crowd can make a difference. So can you!!
The evening also had budding entrepreneurs contributing to the event. The goody bags were sponsored by these kindred souls.
Chintal Kakaya – Baker & Specialist in artisan Indian-inspired cakes & biscuits. Her nankhatai were delicious. She has also been my first client with product photography. The lady came with a burning temperate to address the audience. Kudos!
Spice Drops – They provide concentrated extracts of herbs and spices with all the natural goodness, taste and flavour. A tiny drop to transform your experience of spices.
