Loves me Loves me not | Amaranth Crusted Parmesan Chicken Drumsticks

If parents are the fixed stars in the child’s universe, the vaguely understood, distant but constant celestial spheres, siblings are the dazzling, sometimes scorching comets whizzing nearby.– Alison Gopnik

I peeped into her heart, only to know it existed bilaterally symmetrical. She wasn’t biased. If she had one bread and then it would be cut into equal halves and be fed to her ego and her alter ego. This is coherent with the definition of a mother and her heart. Her love for her fledglings remains unchallenged. But just hatched chicks who haven’t even seen the world. Thanks to the Pandora they know one divine truth, to live we satiate our hunger.

She had scratched the other chick with her claws and poked her with her beak. Only for that one juicy worm that her mother had got. The chick knew so well that it was only a wait until next flight when it was her turn to be fed. Alas, the mother had only one beak. The survival of the fittest theory is never put to shame in this insane world.

I believe functional specialisation of the brain starts right from the point when the baby is conceived. He comes into this world programmed to find her eternal vent. She knew the meaning of urge, hunger and opportunity. For long the baby enjoys autonomous right over all things ‘home’. The suckling breast, soothing touch, crushing cuddle, squeaking toys and all things called as LOVE. The first child is the unchallenged ruler of the nascent parents. Then comes the second baby who comes into a little old home. The parents have turned a new leaf with a tiny shine of silver hair. Aged figuratively with experience and responsibility. Just in-between the crevice formed by the clasping arms and the bending shoulder are two curious eyes. The eyes gleaming with questions, who is this new baby? Why isn’t the arm is around me ? Why am I not being peered down ? Why on earth has she come into my world ?

Thus starts the formation of a new bond amidst conjecture, halting giggles and surprising thoughts. We are Sisters. The Roy sisters. Have been so from the last century and will continue to be so in this century. The journey so far has been through blossoming valleys, lush gardens, steep climbs, deep gorges and flat plateaus with many more path entwined. They bond is very special even though not twins but the growing is overlapping. Caring, sharing and fighting are the three most importent pillars if you have a siblings. A survey conducted showed 90% of the individuals would want to imagine their childhood with their sibling.

I am preparing the Amaranth Crusted Parmesan Chicken Drumsticks today. With chicken drumsticks there is a very bitter-sweet memory from childhood. Every sunday it was customary to have chicken for lunch. It was a tradition followed in our house because sunday meals are special for the whole family. Generally a Fried rice, Salad and Chicken curry was the perennial menu. We sisters were very fond of chicken. The chicken unfortunately is born with only two legs. The mother is also born with a heart which has to balance her two halves. The head of the house my father had the privilege of receiving one drumstick while the other had to given to either of the sisters. A Déjà vu moment for me as I write it down. The reaction remained static every week only the faces changed. The week I received the drumstick my sister made a sullen face as if the bounty was stolen under her eye.So mother is biased towards me. The quick swap happens next week when the drumstick is dropped onto my sister’s plate. I sulked and declared she loves me not. The poor drumstick became the yard stick of love. Sigh**

Alas, only if the chicken had three legs. 🙂

I am cooking the drumsticks which are rubbed with herbs and parmesan cheese. Then coated with gluten-free mixture of amaranth and gram flour. If you want more amaranth recipe then you should check out this post here.

  1. You know, I am not a big fan of Chicken Drumstick, I only love goat meat. But your pictures are so much tempting, I can’t explain. However, I find the first picture very grainy. Is it on purpose?

    • Hi Dolphia,

Thanks 🙂 !! Like I don’t eat fish. Sigh** It is a break from the sterile and high quality pictures to following the latest craze with photographers, introducing rustic look with grains. Its on purpose otherwise I would definitely apologized for the picture quality in post. You could read photography life or lens culture.

      Best Regards,
      Roy
